ACE Limited (NYSE: ACE), the holding company for the ACE Group of Companies, today opened its new global headquarters in Hamilton, Bermuda.
An official opening ceremony attended by the Premier of Bermuda, the Honorable Jennifer Smith DHumL, JP, MP, Members of Parliament, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of ACE, Brian Duperreault, members of ACE’s Board of Directors as well as other invited dignitaries and guests was held at 5.00 p.m., Thursday, August 9, 2001 at the new global headquarters on Woodbourne Avenue.
“The opening of our new global headquarters is significant for a number of reasons,” said Mr. Duperreault. “It brings the members of the ACE family in Bermuda together under one roof for the first time in many years; it symbolizes ACE’s commitment to Bermuda as the base from which the Company will run its global operations; and it provides a state of the art facility from which ACE will manage its future growth and development.”
ACE has constructed its global headquarters on property acquired in 1997 through a special Act of Parliament and ground was broken in August 1998. The new structure with four floors of office space will initially house up to 170 employees of ACE Limited, ACE Bermuda Insurance Ltd. and ACE Financial Solutions International Ltd. ACE’s reinsurance operations in Bermuda, ACE Tempest Reinsurance Company Limited, and ACE Capital Re International, will eventually move into The ACE Building that is located across the street from the new headquarters.
Designed by Princeton based firm The Hillier Group and Conyers & Associates in Bermuda, ACE Global Headquarters incorporates traditional Bermudian architecture including a stepped roofline, pastel coloured exteriors and window treatments. The floor of the reception area of the new building features a map of the world in limestone inlaid with granite and marble. The building also features a fitness facility, a cafeteria and underground parking.
There is also a purpose built art gallery located on the ground floor that will feature periodic exhibits of local and international artists. The inaugural exhibit mounted for the opening ceremony features contemporary abstracts by renowned American artist Jennifer Bartlett.
